4-H Photography Extravaganza
Friday & Saturday
March 6 & 7, 2009
Thousands of flowers, landscapes and garden features
provide a unique photography experience.
All 4-H Youth Are Invited To Participate.
INFORMATION IN THIS SECTION APPLIES TO
BOTH HORTICULTURE JUDGING AND PHOTOGRAPHY

PARTICIPATION
* Individuals
* Team Participation
(3 or 4 Members) Coaches designate teams.
No limit on number which can participate from a
county/district.
Participants in both the Horticulture and Photography
Contests need to start with the Horticulture Contest.
They will be escorted AS A GROUP to the Photo Contest
upon completion of the Horticulture Contest.
* Senior
(AGE 14 through 18) Senior contestants must be age 14
before January 1, 2009.
(Age 9 through 13) Intermediate contestants must be
age 9 before January 1, 2009.
(Ages 7 and 8) Junior participants who have
not reached the age of 9 before January 1, 2009.
Discounted gate admission of $2 to the WGS for 4-H’ers
pre-registered for both contests will receive only one ticket.
Please make check payable to the Wichita Garden Show.
Unused tickets will not be refunded. Participant cancellations
require discounted ticket forfeiture to WGS.
Contest registration at the door is accepted but discounted
tickets will not be available.
* Adults
One discounted adult ticket ($2) will be available for
purchase for each 4 youth tickets issued.
ALL DISCOUNTED TICKETS, ALONG WITH DIRECTIONAL
MAPS, WILL BE MAILED TO COUNTY/DISTRICT EXTENSION
OFFICES WITH ADDITIONAL CONTEST INFORMATION
FOLLOWING PRE-REGISTRATION.
* Non-Participants - Parents or family may purchase regular
ADMISSION PRICED PER TICKET AT THE DOOR.
REGULAR ADMISSION PRICES
FOR ADULTS: (Age 16 and over) $11.00
FOR SENIORS: (Age 60 and older) Wednesday $ 8.50
(Rest of Show) $11.00
If any contestant requires special accommodations (i.e. reader),
please advise the contest coordinators when you send in your
registration.
JUNIOR NON COMPETITIVE EVENTS
Non-competitive learning opportunity to acquaint younger
4-H’ers (age 7 and 8) with Horticulture and Photo Judging
* Registration required
* Parents and leaders encouraged to assist 4-H’ers
* Youth must be 9 years of age or older to participate in
competitive 4-H events.

6:45 PM CHECK-IN TIME (In front of Room 209)
(Located at the top of the stairs in the
Connecting Lobby-Turn right to Hyatt Hallway)
Participants are asked to bring clipboard and
2 photos taken previously by the participant
to be critiqued by the Photo Action Team
Members.
7:15 PM General Session (for everyone) Room 209

(Two 30 minute sessions on current photo topics)

FOR 4-H PARTICIPANTS
FRIDAY, MARCH 6
1) PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES 9:00 PM to 10:45 PM
* Participants will provide their own camera and
equipment.
* Participants will be allowed to take photographs
after Show closes Friday night.
* Please respect Show Exhibitor’s displays. Adults and
youth, DO NOT TOUCH merchandise or plant material.
2) AFTER-SHOW PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
* 4-H Participants may enter up to four photographs
taken at the Wichita Garden Show
* Photo are to be 4”x6” colored, glossy and accompanied
by their negatives or CD.
* PLEASE DO NOT CUT THE NEGATIVE STRIP APART.
* PHOTO DIVISION WILL BE BY AGE OF PHOTOGRAPHER:
-Junior Age 7 & 8 (non-competitive participation only);
Intermediate Age 9-13;
-Senior Age 14 and over.
* EACH PHOTO MUST BE IDENTIFIED ON A MAILING LABEL,
ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE PHOTO, WITH THE
FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

* FOR ENTRIES FROM DIGITAL CAMERA:
1) Send a pdf or Word attachment. Please do not
send disc from the processor.
2) Please do not share CD’s; one per person.
3) If entry is altered or blemishes are removed
on entered photo, the edited version should
be on the CD.
4) Only entered images can be on the CD (not
all that were taken).
5) Images should not be in a file on the CD.
6) Image numbers on the CD should be #1, #2,
#3 or #4. No names allowed.
7) Image number on CD must match the one on
the label of the corresponding photo that
is submitted.
8) Please put name of 4-H’er on the CD.

WICHITA GARDEN SHOW MARKETING USE OPPORTUNITIES
All entries will be reviewed by the Wichita Garden Show for
possible use in future Garden Show marketing. The Wichita
Garden Show will have the option to select entries for
marketing use. Participants will be notified by May 22, 2009.
Negatives, CD’s and photos will be returned after copies are
made by the Wichita Garden Show. 4-H Members are
encouraged to make enlargements of photos for
county fair competition before negatives, CD’s
and photos are sent in. Credits will
appropriately be given to each photographer
when photo is sed by the Wichita Garden Show
for any use. Certificates will be issued for
photos used in WGS promotion.

(KELLOGG) PROCEED WEST TO DOWNTOWN AREA.
* APPROACHING DOWNTOWN WICHITA FROM THE WEST OR
EAST: TAKE US-54 (KELLOGG) TO DOWNTOWN AREA.
CENTURY II IS THE LARGE ROUND DOMED BUILDING WITH THE
BLUE/GREEN ROOF.
* PARKING
Go one block north of Century II on WACO Street to
1st St. Go right to a very large covered parking garage.
It is within easy walking. No charge in evening after
5:00 PM or on Saturday.
* FREE PARKING AT LAWRENCE DUMONT STADIUM,
RIDE FREE SHUTTLE TO CENTURY II.
To locate Lawrence Dumont Stadium from Century II, take
Lewis/Maple or Douglas Streets west over the bridge to
Sycamore Street, turn South from Douglas; turn north
from Lewis/Maple.
Shuttle Schedule: Friday - 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM; Saturday -
8:00 AM to 10:00 PM
