The Wichita Garden Show
is proud to host the
2010 4-H Horticulture Judging Contest
and the
4-H Photography Extravaganza.
Both are competitions open
to 4-H youth across Kansas and neighboring states.
To better prepare 4-H'ers for state and national
horticulture competitions, the 4-H Horticulture
Judging Contest at the Wichita Garden Show
offers 4-H'ers an opportunity to practice
1) identification of leaves, fruit and nuts and,
2) comparing plants, fruit and vegetables
to identify traits of quality.
Thousands of plants and flowers in the
gardens and exhibits also provide an outstanding educational opportunity for independent
plant identification.

educational opportunity for plant identification.
All 4-H Youth Are Invited To Participate.
INFORMATION IN THIS SECTION APPLIES TO
BOTH HORTICULTURE
JUDGING AND PHOTOGRAPHY

PARTICIPATION
* Individuals
* Team Participation
(3 or 4 Members) Coaches designate teams.
No limit on number which can participate from a
county/district.
Participants in both the Horticulture and Photography
Contests need to start with the Horticulture Contest.
They will be escorted AS A GROUP to the Photo Contest
upon completion of the Horticulture Contest.
* Senior
(AGE 14 through 18) Senior contestants must be age 14
before January 1, 2010.
(Age 9 through 13) Intermediate contestants must be
age 9 before January 1, 2010.
(Ages 7 and 8) Junior participants who have
not reached the age of 9 before January 1, 2010.
Discounted gate admission of $2 to the WGS for 4-H’ers
pre-registered for both contests will receive only one pass.
Passes are good for entry on both Friday and Saturday. DO NOT
SURRENDER PASS AT GATE.
Unused passes will not be refunded. Participant cancellations
require discounted pass forfeiture to WGS.
* Walk-in participants are accepted. However, participants must

One discounted adult pass ($2) will be available for
purchase for each 4 youth passes purchased.

MAPS, WILL BE MAILED TO COUNTY/DISTRICT EXTENSION
OFFICES WITH ADDITIONAL CONTEST INFORMATION
FOLLOWING PRE-REGISTRATION.
* Non-Participants - Parents or family may purchase regular
ADMISSION TICKETS AT THE DOOR.
REGULAR ADMISSION PRICES
FOR ADULTS: (Age 16 and over) $11.00
FOR SENIORS: (Age 60 and older) Wednesday $ 8.50
(Rest of Show) $11.00
If any contestant requires special accommodations (i.e. reader),
please advise the contest coordinators when you send in your
registration.
JUNIOR NON COMPETITIVE EVENTS
Non-competitive learning opportunity to acquaint younger
4-H’ers (age 7 and 8) with Horticulture and Photo Judging
* Registration required. Walk-in participants are accepted.
However, participants must pay full admission price.
* Parents and leaders encouraged to assist 4-H’ers
* Youth must be 9 years of age or older to participate in
competitive 4-H events.

is the top place winner at the State 4-H Horticulture Judging
Contest, the Wichita Garden Show will award a $200
scholarship toward the team's expenses to compete at the
National Junior Horticulture Association Convention Contest
in the Fall of 2010.

To locate Lawrence Dumont Stadium from Century II, take
Lewis/Maple or Douglas Streets west over the bridge to
