JUROR

               Mary Binford Miller
Oil Painting Instructor
Wichita Center for the Arts

marybinfordmillerblackwhite

Having grown up in Liberal, Kansas, Mary
received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in painting from Kansas State University. She spent 17 years in the commercial art field as a fashion illustrator and graphic designer for large newspapers in Oklahoma and Kansas.

During her commercial art years, she also painted commissioned portraits and figurative work while attending workshops given by noted painters, Everett Raymond Kinstler, David Leffel and Daniel Gerhartz.

Along with her figurative work, Mary also produces western genre paintings of buffalo, cowboys, horses and landscapes.

Mary had been surrounded by master level paintings her entire life.  Her inspiration comes from her Great Uncle, William Waymon Adams, who was an accomplished painter and lithographer who practices in Indiana, New York and Texas.  Waymon met her Aunt Margaret Graham Boroughs, also an accomplished painter, in William Marritt Chase's painting class in Italy.

John Singer Sargent, Jules Bastien-Lepage, Nicolai Fechin, as well as a host of other American and French artists, continue to be her inspiration.

Kansas City-born Abstract Impressionist Paul Jenkins, and his love of color, have been a big influence on her as well.  Mary aspires to produce fine art at the level of these master painters.

Mary is professionally representated by the Southwind Gallery of Topeka, Kansas, the American Legacy Gallery of Kansas City,
Missouri, and Artwork of Wichita, Kansas.

Artists will be seen painting art everywhere at
the Garden Show

LOOK FOR SELECT KANSAS ARTISTS WHO HAVE BEEN INVITED SET UP THEIR EASLES AND PAINT DURING THE SHOW.  Watch for them in the garden and everywhere you look throughout the
day on Artists Day.

02_pink_dahlia_small_400

Select Kansas artists have been invited to paint something they see at the Wichita Garden Show - it might be one of the beautifully landscaped gardens, a garden product, a small portion of a garden, or a single flower, a brightly colored flower pot or a lavious garden path lined with spring flowers. The beauty of Spring abounds throughout the entire Show and is an artist’s paradise.

Artists will arrive at 9:00 AM to register in by the Visions of Flowers Fine Art Display in front of the stage in Convention  Hall.  Once registered in, they they are then free to find just that right spot they will spend the next several hours painting. Painting is from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Paintings will be jurored (judged) at 2:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded.  Some pieces of art will be for sale.

The Wichita Garden Show Gate Ticket ($11.50) is the artist's entry fee for the Alla Prima Art Competition.

The public is encouraged to meet the artists
and watch as the artists transfer the beauty
of the Show to their canvasses.
